Perhaps more than ever before, millions of Americans are acutely aware of the realities of foreclosure. Since the housing market first began its precipitous downswing two years ago, millions of Americans have lost their houses in this process. Projections for the annual total for 2010 have the number running as high as 2.4 million. For an epidemic facing so many homeowners, shockingly few people understand the process or the terms of their own mortgage; according to a poll conducted in part by Freddie Mac, six out of ten people say they wished they understood their mortgage better.
